Messing about with styles again

So the last few days I've really gotten into trying to draw more styles, and since I pretty much always use teenage girls as a style base to get the main idea down, it's mostly gonna be females in this post.

I really like the designs at the bottom, they seem so much more lively with more personality than the other sketches (although I do like most of those, too). I wanted to experiment more with proportions.

And I got this. Well, these. It's the same character but with different clothes. I'm VERY proud of how this turned out, and I'd love to try working with this style some more, maybe making a project of it sometime :)


In other news, I finally started a portfolio using deviantART's new system. Most of it's anime so far, but that's because I'm working on something good enough to post in the other sections.

Manga Jiman is all done!

So I spent the last nearly 3 weeks working on my manga Jiman contest entry and sent it off a couple of days ago. I then got a PSP and Dissidia: Final Fantasy, which accidently took up the last couple of days of my time.

There was a load of stuff I wanted to mention here, like different artists and stuff, but they've totally slipped me mind right now. From now on, I'm making a list of things I want to mention, that should help.

Planning to email about the client project this month, along with trying out more styles / 3D work so I can at least have a portfolio started. DeviantART has a portfolio service now, which I intend to use :)

Portfolio sites

Looking at 3 different portfolio sites who fit under the 'virtual environment' catagory. I don't entirely get what contextual info means, so I won't write anything next to that.


Site 1: Heather Kelley
Impact: 1/5 - Nothing stood out for me. Bland colours and nothing to attract the eye.
Range of work: 2/5 - Slightly varied amount of work.
Navigation: 2/5 - The sub menus are practically unnoticable, which really confused me.
Contextual info: 3/5
All around: 1/5 - It didn't impress me in the slightest. Nothing really sold this person's work to me.

Site 2: hdhcg.com
Impact: 3/5 - Nice graphics and a simple animation drew my eye to the navigation, but moving text drew it away again.
Range of work: 3/5 - Some of it's a bit samey, but there's a nice solid selection of good work.
Navigation: 4/5 - Easy to work your way around. Each link opening with a popup window gets annoying tho'.
Contextual info: 3/5
All around: 4/5 - A neat website with a few distractions. Also has some worksteps for some of the images.

Site 3: TargeteArt
Impact: 3/5 - The first image you click on really stands out. The actual site is a usual blogger template, tho'.
Range of work: 4/5 - Mainly fantasy, but there's a nice range in techniques and styles.
Navigation: 5/5 - Easy to find what you're looking for. Not too many options to over-complicate things.
Contextual info: 3/5
All around: 4/5 - A bit somplictic in it's design, but a nice, mostly consistant site with lots of artwork.
